ABAQUS Basics

Description

ABAQUS is a general-purpose, nonlinear finite element analysis program. This program is outside our areas of expertise and you will need to experiment with it and consult with it's associated online documentation.

Availability and Setup

ABAQUS version 6.8-4 is available on the Katana Cluster and pSeries machines. An older version 6.5-7 is available on the Linux Cluster machines. The ABAQUS CAE and viewer are only available on the Katana and Linux Clusters.

To invoke ABAQUS, type:

katana% abaqus
To start the CAE graphical interface (not available on pSeries), type:
katana% abaqus cae

Using ABAQUS

ABAQUS is outside of our fields of expertise and we are therefore unable to provide more detailed help and instructions on the package's use.

Additional Help/Documentation

A large collection of ABAQUS documentation and tutorials is available (link only works for internal BU users). Another option to access this material is to either use the "Help" menu from within the Abaqus graphical interface or, on the command line, type:
katana% abaqus doc
Either method should cause the material to come up in your web browser.

Online, you should consider visiting the Simulia site as they are the developers of ABAQUS.

If you need access to the hardcopy documentation for ABAQUS, we do have it (for the 6.5-7 version) and it is available in the Computer Graphics Lab (Room 203, 111 Cummington Street, lab hours and access).
